The Oddroots

/

The Oddroots was initially formed in 2017 by saxophonist Andrea J Peg and trumpeter Fabrizio Ballistreri, who started together their music careers almost 10 years ago. Ayahuaska is the sublimation of different yet communicating views of ska and reggae music. With original members Alessio Carbone (guitar) and Andrea Ceccarelli (keyboards) the band began to experiment and link jamaican, funk, jazz and popular music. In 2018 Giorgia Giusti (vocals), Luca Masotti (drums), Riccardo Alexander (bass) joined the band, and later, in 2019, Lorenzo Caciotta (alto sax) joined.

As a collective whole, The Oddroots want to desecrate and bend reggae music standards and landmarks with their contaminated, introspective, reflective, sometimes somber and sometimes joyous music. The conflict between light and dark side of music reflects their inner struggle and a friction between hope and despair we live everyday as friends, as people, and as a whole generation. The upbeat, wavy, and jazzy music feeling is influenced by bands such as The Wailers, Skatalites, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, Toots & The Maytals, Monty Alexander and Mulatu Astatke, in a mix of reggae, soul and sometimes funky atmosphere. The union of philosophical and psychological concepts are the result of a long-time friendship between philosophy graduate Andrea J Peg and psychology graduate Giorgia Giusti, who are mostly responsible for lyrics writing.

Since 2017 The Oddroots have performed in various venues throughout Italy, from music clubs to outdoor festivals, bringing energy and good vibes to all kinds of audiences. After an early independent EP, the band recorded a live session in 2019, inaugurating a deep collaboration with sound engineer Francesco Passi (Oxygen Session). In 2020 the band will release their studio work produced at Polistudio Recording and published by Orange Park Records.
